Steam Next Fest Demo and Halloween Update

Hi, everyone!

So, I took a short break from working on this project after releasing the first version and fixing any bugs it had.  But now I'm back and we are currently participating in the Steam Next Fest. I have done some quality-of-life updates as well as a small Halloween update.  You can download the steam demo here:  https://store.steampowered.com/app/3207620/Rogue_Raiders/
If you wanted to play the game with your online friends, this is a good option since it has Remote Play.
So far it has done much better than I expected :) Like I'm pretty sure no one reads these updates and downloads on itch.io have been very few. But now I'm feeling a lot more motivated.

Here are the new features:

  • Added Haunt, a new spooky map with movable platforms and invisible mazes that are only visible when lightning strikes.
  • Ghost trap, a very affectionate ghost that will chase players when they are not looking.
  • Small redesign of Sanctuary and Forest.
  • Big terrain sprite update.
  • Added a "give up" button. So, you can no longer get soft locked.

Other minor updates:

  • Made "Starting Traps" default to "Yes".
  • Adjustment of color pallet.
  • Added placement blockers near the start and exit of all dungeons to prevent players from blocking them.
  • Traps now have different placement rules, and some won't allow them to be placed in walls (keys for example).
  • Added tooltip while placing traps.
  • Fixed a focus bug when exiting the pause menu in the main menu and using a controller.
  • Better focus and flow in menus in general.
So, as you can see there has been some changes. I probably missed some as well.
I want to keep adding content and flesh this game out over time. One change I think is needed is making the levels more unique and interactive. You can see what I mean if you look at the new map.  The randomized maze-like rooms are pretty fun. Where you have to memorize the layout before you navigate them. And moving platforms add some more fun and classic platforming. I also have a few other ideas I'm working on, and I think doing seasonal updates like Halloween was very fun so look forward to some more of that.

I also have some other quality-of-life updates in mind. Like improving the trap placement with a small menu for selecting traps and adding some variety to it so players are pushed to be a little more creative with their placements.  Main menu also needs a better look. Right now, the levels are just named and that's a bit confusing. They definitely need a better representation.

And how could I forget mentioning online play. I have done some testing and have it almost working but I was not able to have it ready for the Next Fest update. There are a few hurdles I need to overcome before that can be a thing.

Thanks for reading, and thanks for playing as well.
Next time we might have a very dwarven update to look forward to <3
